Eurovelo 8 (EV8) Mediterranean route, Barcelona to Alicante.
18 days (12 riding days) on the Eurovelo 8 Mediterranean route. Rest days in Barcelona, Tarragona, Valencia and Cocentaina. Ride the Ebro Delta and see where the largest river wholly in Spain empties into the Mediterranean. Eurovelo 8 (EV8) Mediterranean Route is one of many long-distance cycle routes in Europe. As its name suggests, it runs along the Mediterranean, starting in Cadiz in Southern Spain, and going all the way to Turkey with an extension to Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean. This ride starts in Barcelona where there are direct flights from the USA. Transfers back to Barcelona from Alicante at the end of the ride are included.
We will ride the section between Barcelona and Alicante, which for the most part hugs the coast, but with a few incursions inland. The ride is graded Moderate although a few days exceed the Moderate rating for either distance or elevation (but not both). Each ride has its own grading. Please read the itinerary carefully before booking. There are four rest days. If you wish to rent a bicycle, these can be obtained from rental shops in Barcelona. You are welcome to bring your own bicycle – a mountain bike or gravel bike will be most suitable. If you prefer to bring or rent a road bike, there are road variations where the route is off-road. N.B. Any road variations will not be guided; you will need to self-navigate.

Payment:-
Deposit on booking of £75. Balance of £3625 (£4975 for single occupancy) 10 weeks before the start date, (25th June 2027).
Cancellations:-
Should you need to cancel your booking you must notify us in writing.
Cancellation charges:- Written notice received: Before 25th June 2027, Deposit (£75)
Between 25th June 2027 and 6th Augus 2027, 50% of monies paid.
After 6th August 2027, no refund will be made and you will need to make a claim on your cancellation insurance.
It is strongly advised that you obtain trip cancellation insurance on booking.
General Information:-
Terrain and roads. There is a mix of good quality tarmac, well graded gravel, and a few rougher sections. Traffic will be light outside towns, at times almost non-existent.
Accommodation and meals:-
Accommodation will be in hotels and a comfortable guest house. Price is based on two people sharing a room. All breakfasts and evening meals are included. There are numerous bars and restaurants throughout the area where lunch and coffees can be purchased.
Travel and transfers:-
Transfers will be arranged as soon as we know numbers and arrival/departure times. If your inward flight is delayed, we will endeavour to collect you when we can, but you may have to wait at the airport.
Weather and clothing:-
It should be pleasantly warm but cooler weather or rain is always possible. You should ensure you have appropriate clothing. It is compulsory to wear a hi-viz jacket in poor visibility, and helmets are compulsory in Spain.
Navigation:-
We will provide GPS files. Groups usually meet up at coffee stops, points of interest etc.
Bicycle and equipment:-
Ensure that your bicycle is in good condition, especially tyres and brakes. You should carry spares, a pump and a simple tool kit to cope with punctures and minor repairs. A mountain or gravel bike will be most suitable for this holiday although could be done on a light tourer or hybrid.
Health and insurance:-
As well as an EHIC (or new GHIC) card, you must have travel insurance. It is strongly recommended that you take out insurance on booking your holiday, so that if you need to cancel, you may be able to claim the cancellation charges.
