4 Lost Railways of Spain
6 - 13 September 2025:
This holiday the history behind the railway lines that once ran through this area. Most of the rides are on the former railways themselves so are relatively flat. Lights will be needed as we cycle through many tunnels. The pace will be leisurely, and there will be the opportunity to stop frequently to talk about aspects of the railways.

Saturday
Arrival.
Transfer from Alicante airport to arrive at your accommodation in Denia, check in and assemble your bike.
Sunday
Denia to Gandia.
Ride from Denia to Villalonga along the former railway line, part of the Denia to Carcaixent line which closed in 1974. 42kms. 300m.
Monday
Villalonga to Cocentaina.
From Villalonga we pick up the Serpis Via Verde, faithfully following the railway line to Cocentaina. 36kms. 610m.
Tuesday
Bocairent.
We visit the interesting town of Bocairent using the Xixarra railway line. Bocairent is one of the most visited towns in the Valencia region. 46kms. 540m.
Wednesday
Cocentaina.
A chance to have a day off to explore Cocentaina or have a short local ride. 40kms. 400m.
Thursday
Cocentaina to Castalla.
We take the Alcoy Via Verde, which would have carried the railway line to Alicante. 39kms. 560m.
Friday
Castalla to Torrellano.
Continue on the line towards Alicante, now called the Maigmo Via Verde. Our ride ends in Torrellano, close to Alicante airport for your return. 70kms. 231m.
Saturday
Holiday ends
Holiday ends after breakfast. Transfer to Alicante airport.
