(See photo above). The lake at Beniarres, actually a reservoir, is our destination for today. The dam holds back the River Serpis and the water provides hydroelectric power and irrigation. 42 kms, (26 miles. 606 metres, (1988 ft.).

Tuesday

Millena.

Cycling from Cocentaina to Millena is a short but rewarding ride through the tranquil interior of Alicante province, offering a blend of gentle climbs, although there is a short, stiff climb to Tollos, winding rural roads, and scenic mountain views. As you leave Cocentaina, the landscape quickly opens into olive groves and almond orchards, with the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de Mariola ever present. 54 kms, (33 miles).  1042 metres, (3418 ft.).

Wednesday

Round the back of Benicadell.

The road curls gently around Benicadell, its limestone face watching in quiet approval. Olive groves gradually give way to oranges and other citrus fruits. Each turn reveals a wider horizon—valleys unfolding, villages shrinking behind you—until the summit feels less like a destination and more like a quiet understanding between rider and mountain. An easier ride then to our base. 81 kms, (50 miles. 1201 metres (3940 ft.).

Thursday

The Carrasqueta - a classic road which used to be the main road from Alicante to the inland city of Alcoy. It is well graded at a steady 5%.
